ENGAGEMENT: January 31st Bronzeville TOD Connects Community Workshop For The Moving Milwaukee Forward Streetcar Study

MKE<->LAX in collaboration with Jazale’s Art Studio encourage you to attend the City’s TOD Connects community workshop in Bronzeville for the Moving Milwaukee Forward streetcar study next Wednesday, January 31 from 6-8pm at Hillside Terrace per below.
TOD stand for Transit-Oriented Development and relates with the potential growth of Bronzeville and nearby areas if the streetcar extends on King Drive. We had the pleasure of recently participating in a City advisors meeting where we saw some of the preliminary design ideas for TOD Connects in Bronzeville and believe this is an important milestone to receive your design feedback for the process. We are advocating for a network of green spaces on and off North Avenue that could include activating many of the City’s open lots and more trees and other vegetation as part of a new streetscape canopy. We are also advocating for support of small to mid-size creative entrepreneur businesses in Bronzeville, as well as inclusion of the City’s foreclosed houses and small buildings in the study area as potential rehabilitation for these creative entrepreneurs.

Join Us For The Third Community Workshop For The Moving Milwaukee Forward Study

There will be a brief presentation at the beginning of the meeting, followed by an opportunity to talk with the study team and other residents in small groups about preliminary design ideas.

The proposed, future King Drive/ Bronzeville extension of the Milwaukee Streetcar has the potential to connect people to jobs, attract new businesses, bring new housing options, and improve public open spaces. The City of Milwaukee and the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District are planning for how to ensure residents and business benefit from the potential changes that improved transit could bring to the neighborhood. The only way to make this study successful is to hear from residents.  Please attend and bring a neighbor!

Please attend and tell us:

  • Where transit oriented development should occur and what it should look like

  • What housing options residents need in their neighborhood

  • How to make the neighborhood better for walking

This meeting is the third of several community workshops planned. Additional details about the event and the project are on the attached flyer.
